Winding down.

There are just so little days left here at school! I can count the days until graduation on my hands and toes (well almost).  This weekend was the senior art show. I am going to try to get photos of it to upload, so that is a goal for the week.  If you have the opportunity to go, you must! OWU has many talented artists.  I believe the show runs through graduation so take a look! 

Summer is FINALLY here, with consecutive days of warm weather in the 60s and 70s. I can finally bust out the bike and ride.  It is so hard to get work done with such nice weather coupled with a severe case of senioritis!

Hey Chicago what do you say, Cubs are going to win today!

This past weekend I was in Chicago. I visited the University of Chicago for a graduate school visit. I spent some time at the House of Blues and even went to the Cubs game on Sunday. We sat in left field and no matter how much sunscreen I put on, I was still burned.

Now that the semester is winding down, things are getting quite busy here on campus.  Everything from the Spring Art show, Springfest, Spring Step Show-it is so nice to see everything with the name "spring" in it! This is definitely one of the best times of the year. However, it is also the busiest homework time too.

The blizzard of '78

So I am sure everyone has heard of the "great blizzard" that came through Ohio-it even made Yahoo! news. Weather always times itself perfectly: never in the middle of the week or during finals yet rather the day before spring break grounding planes, stopping traffic, oh and stranding half of Ohio Wesleyan University. It was a record snowfall, biggest EVER, in Columbus with 20.5 inches. My room mates and I were stranded in our apartment living of peanut butter. We cleaned out our refrigerator in anticipation in break only to be stuck with a small bit of food. Included in this post are some pictures from that weekend in hopes that anyone not from the East Coast or Michigan will sympathize.

P.s. 52 days until graduation! I am not excited or anything...

The Oracle

I seem to have perfect timing. My last post was all about activism on campus. Sure enough last week we had Chelsea Clinton come to campaign for her mother and this week we have Nick Cannon and Kal Penn campaigning for Obama.  So what really is the strategic importance of OWU? This is something deeply discussed in my Senior Seminar class. With half of the student body from out of state, a large percentage of international students, and located in a conservative county, Delaware, why come out to good ole' Wesleyan? Why would the stars of Drum Line and Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle take time to talk about Obama? Being close to Columbus has its advantages.  But like I stated in my previous blog entry, I think the strong activism on campus definitely plays a role. Who knows, Will.I.AM. could be coming next.

Restore Democracy, 2008!

One thing I really like about Ohio Wesleyan is the political action that takes part on campus. Over recent weeks, there has been lots of political buzz on campus over candidates. The newly formed Ohio Wesleyan Students for Barack Obama is taking off (explains his under 30 constituency), the Super Tuesday party and Mock Convention (!!) are keeping OWU politically charged.  I think many outsiders assume that OWU is a campus of crazed liberals (the wire hangers hanging in the trees of the Jay Walk for women's right to choose perfect example), rastafarians, and yuppies.  I think more than anything, OWU has a strong student body that is very dedicated to activism.  Whether it is stamping out breast cancer, the problems in Darfur, or supporting a presidential candidate, most students are dedicated in promoting an issue close to their heart. It is always important to believe in something, and I definitely believe in OWU.

After so many semesters, I can't believe I am almost done! I finally finished graduate school applications (phew) and actually was accepted! I am still waiting to hear back from others, but it feels good to actually have a plan.  One piece of advice: keep your options open. Maybe next year I'll be in Spain, who knows!

Over the past week and a half, Formal Recruitment was in full force! We gained 10 wonderful ladies and now we are at total, meaning we are a full house! Always a great feeling.  

I am trying to take these next few months a day at a time.  I think I always assumed that second semester senior year would be so easy.  I am definitely going to try and enjoy it.
