Restore Democracy, 2008!

One thing I really like about Ohio Wesleyan is the political action that takes part on campus. Over recent weeks, there has been lots of political buzz on campus over candidates. The newly formed Ohio Wesleyan Students for Barack Obama is taking off (explains his under 30 constituency), the Super Tuesday party and Mock Convention (!!) are keeping OWU politically charged.  I think many outsiders assume that OWU is a campus of crazed liberals (the wire hangers hanging in the trees of the Jay Walk for women's right to choose perfect example), rastafarians, and yuppies.  I think more than anything, OWU has a strong student body that is very dedicated to activism.  Whether it is stamping out breast cancer, the problems in Darfur, or supporting a presidential candidate, most students are dedicated in promoting an issue close to their heart. It is always important to believe in something, and I definitely believe in OWU.
For more info. on Mock Convention (And all of the beautifully copyrighted photos I would have posted go to http://mock2008.owu.edu) and VIVE PUERTO RICO!

Are there any groups dedicated to the GOP candidates or even the Rep Party in general? That is the true test if the political activism is all from left of center students or if its broad based.

There are with 5% of the student body belonging to them. If you are a Republican you might feel uncomfortable at OWU though you will one of the few providing the balance to the vast majority of very liberal students.

I do not feel as if that is a fair assessment. During my time at OWU, the Republicans have been in the White House. Therefore there hasn't been a huge need or want for GOP groups. OWU still has College Republicans so that is definitely something to get involved in as well.

Also, many of my closest friends are Republicans so to say that "5%" of the student body is Republican is wrong, I'd like to know where they found that statistic.

Hi Kate,

I created this...just in case you are interested:

Also, there is a more reliable survey:

I obviously exagerated by saying 5% but obviously Repiblicans at Ohio Wesleyan are most definitely a minority.
